TOKYO (Feb. 7, 2015) — Here is some bonus material that wasn’t featured in my Japan Times article (see below) on HBO announcer Jim Lampley’s memories of the Feb. 11, 1990, fight between Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas at Tokyo Dome.
After Douglas stopped Tyson’s reign as heavyweight champion with a 10th-round knockout, Lampley didn’t have time to enjoy the sights as a tourist. He had to get back to work — on the other side of the world.
It was a quick dash out the Tokyo Dome doors en route to catch his Singapore Airlines flight — not even a quick stop at a local noodle or sushi shop was on the agenda.
