New York Post hoop columnist Peter Vecsey included the following in his unabridged column the other day:

“THE KNICKS could’ve used Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf to take Sunday’s last-second shot. One week removed from Japan’s playoffs, Shaq’s LSU buddy, starting since mid-December, notched 17 points, five assists and four steals in 33 minutes the other night in Kyoto’s win over Western Conference-leading Ryukyu, the Okinawa club.

“For the season, Mahmoud has a dozen 20-point games of 46 (averaging 15), is 50.4 percent from three, 80-90 (league-best percentage) at the line while assisting on 108 baskets compared to 55 turnovers.

“Not bad for a 42-year-old.”
